Apprenticeships

Did you know MTA can provide training for your staff?

Did you know you can receive an Australian Government incentive for employing an Apprentice?

MTA can now offer your new recruits the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification.

What is an Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships are entry-level employment and training programs aimed at providing a Trade Qualification to people entering a particular occupation or industry.  They provide industry endorsed and accredited training tailored to suit both the apprentice and the employer’s needs.  Apprenticeships are a workplace based training program, usually combining off the job training at TAFE NSW with on the job training. Training is delivered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). This could be TAFE NSW or a Private Training Provider like MTA NSW. Automotive apprenticeships are 4 years in length.

MTA to deliver Light Vehicle Mechanic Apprenticeships in Sydney, Hunter and Illawarra regions
Historically, training has been classroom based with little correlation with the workplace.  For most employers this means that it is difficult to follow up on the individual needs of their trainee/apprentice.

MTA NSW will come to your workplace.  Your trainees/apprentices will be visited by our qualified and experienced trainers/assessors at least every 4-6 weeks.  They will provide monitoring and one on one training, as well as providing guidance and support throughout the whole training delivery via telephone contact and emails. Having our trainers/assessors at your workplace will also provide you with time to gather feedback about the progression and skills of your employee.

MTA NSW is committed to providing a flexible training plan suited to your business.  If you have more that one trainee/apprentice completing the same qualification, MTA NSW can work with your business to customise the training delivery to meet your needs. Otherwise individual one- on-one training and support is provided to each trainee/apprentice.

By providing training in the workplace MTA NSW can instantly capture the needs and enthusiasm of the individual learner.

As part of training delivery provided by MTA NSW we will supply all trainees/apprentices with self paced learning resources that have been developed in consultation with industry.  These resources are a great reference for the trainees/apprentices and they are up to date and specific to the qualification they are undertaking.
MTA NSW’s approach to assessment is holistic in nature, our aim is to gain an overall picture of an individual’s competence.  We generally assess each unit of competence via a combination of written answers, self assessment, third party assessment, oral questioning and observation/demonstration.  We can however, customise the assessment process to meet an individual’s needs.

Continuous reporting of outcomes to you as employers, via letters or emails, gives you a clear understanding of where your trainee/apprentices are up to and how they are progressing.

WHAT ARE THE FINANCIAL BENEFITS?
There are two types of incentives available to employers who employ trainees.  Australian and State Government.

For Certificate III or higher
Qualifications the incentive can be up to $4000. There is an initial payment of $1500 upon three (3) months of starting the apprenticeship and then upon successful completion you may receive $2500.

State Government Incentives

The NSW government pays you with an exemption from payroll tax for new entrant trainees. If your workplace has a wages bill totaling more than $600 000 per year then you are subject to payroll tax. All new entrant trainees are exempt from payroll tax.

RTA Registration rebates for small businesses

A registration rebate applies to small business owners who employ apprentices between 1 June 2007 and 30 June 2008. The rebate for the first year will be equal to the full registration charge.  The rebate for the second and third year will be equal to the registration fee only.

For new or renewed policies commencing on or after 31 December 2006, the wages paid to an apprentice will no longer be used to assess the business’ premium.

The amount of premium saved will vary depending the number of apprentices employed, the apprentice’s wage rate, and the employer’s WorkCover Industry Classification (WIC). However, as an example, the premium savings to the employer of a first year junior apprentice carpenter earning $17,128 (including allowances) could be $1,089.91.1

For more information on the incentives available to you please contact MEGT
on 13 MEGT (136348). Alternatively MTA NSW can arrange for MEGT to visit you at a convenient time to explain the incentives and the sign up process in more detail.

Note: Incentives vary according to DEST criteria.

WHAT WILL MTA CHARGE ME?
The only fee charged by MTA NSW is an administration fee, for each year of enrollment.  Please contact MTA NSW to find out about this fee.

The administration fee is charged for each year of the apprentice’s enrollment, this will mean any apprentice undertaking a three (3) year qualification will have to pay the administration fee three (3) times.

Administration fees change each year.  All registered training organisations are required by DET NSW to charge administration fees to trainees and apprentices in line with those charged by TAFE NSW.

Please contact MTA NSW to find out about their fees on 02 9213 4222 or email training@mtansw.com.au

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY APPRENTICE DOESN’T COMPLETE THE TRAINING?
If for some reason your apprentice cancels from their apprenticeship you will not have to repay your incentives. A cancellation form will need to be filled out by you and your apprentice and sent to the government to inform them. Depending upon the time in which they cancel MTA NSW may refund part or all of the fees paid for training.

Download registration form and fill in the relevant details and MTA NSW will arrange for MEGT to contact you regarding incentives.
