Passing of Mr Don Holstock AM - Previous MTA NSW Executive Director and Life Member
The Executive Board, Governing Council, Members and Staff of the Motor Traders’ Association of NSW (MTA NSW) would like to express their condolences to family and friends on the passing of Donald (Don) Holstock AM, a previous Executive Director and Life Member of the Association. Don passed away on the 15th January 2018.
Don was the Executive Director of the Association from October 1973 until his retirement from MTA NSW in September 1992.
Motor Traders’ Association of NSW CEO, Stavros Yallouridis, said “Don was a true advocate for the Automotive industry and a significant figure for the MTA”, and as Don stated at the MTA AGM in January 1974, "MTA would be the outstanding Motor Industry trade association in Australia".
From 1945 through to 1967, Don was with the family motor business in Melbourne, Holstock & Jamieson Pty Ltd and was involved in all spheres of the motor trade business. In February 1968, Don was appointed the Acting General Secretary of the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC) and confirmed as the General Secretary and Operations Manager mid that same year.
Don represented the Australian Automobile Chamber of Commerce, in 1972, at Stockholm as a delegate to the International Organisation for Motor Trades and Repairs (IOMTR).
For many years prior to joining MTA NSW in 1973, he was also the Secretary of the Chamber of Automotive Industries in Victoria.
In 1988, Don was recognised for his service to business and commerce, particularly in the retail motor trade, by being awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM).
Don will be fondly remembered amongst many of our long standing Members.
