MTA NSW Donations Support Food Relief and Suicide Prevention
The Motor Traders’ Association of NSW (MTA NSW), is sharing the Christmas spirit with a $50,000 donation that will be shared among two non-profit organisations, Foodbank NSW & ACT and R U OK?
According to Foodbank NSW & ACT, the donations come at a critical time for their services coming into Christmas and the community coming out of COVID-19 restrictions, but with the on-going effects still very evident. These events present the need for practical food relief for local communities including where MTA NSW Member businesses are located.
John Robertson, CEO at Foodbank NSW & ACT, said that Foodbank provides food to more than 1,000 charity partners and schools. The charity partners then distribute these food items to their local communities by providing affordable groceries, emergency hampers, prepared meals, community kitchens and food preparation classes.
“At Foodbank we distributed 21 million meals to hungry Aussies across Australia this year. The succession of back-to-back natural disasters including prolonged drought, catastrophic bushfires, and widespread flooding and then COVID-19 has brought many families and communities beyond breaking point. Many are deeply anxious about where their next meal will come from. A $35 donation will deliver a hamper to someone that’s been doing it tough. Thanks to MTA NSW and their donation, more than 700 families will be supported with food on the table this Christmas.”
The $25,000 donation to R U OK? will support their work to build confidence and equip more Australians with resources and skills to navigate an R U OK? conversation.
MTA NSW CEO, Stavros Yallouridis said that even though the community has come out of restrictions and businesses are improving, we cannot forget those who have and still are doing it tough this year.
“We hope that this donation on behalf of our Members will assist organisations such as Foodbank and R U OK? to continue their work at a local level. MTA NSW really values ‘giving back’ to communities and therefore are extremely proud of what these organisations are achieving and their excellent work,” Mr Yallouridis said.
