MTA NSW Supports Government’s Extra $2.8M Funding Towards The Quad Bike Safety Improvement Program

The Motor Traders’ Association of NSW (MTA NSW), has welcomed the NSW Government’s additional $2.8M dollar funding towards the Quad Bike Safety Improvement Program.

MTA NSW strongly supports the Government’s initiative to reduce the number of crashes involving quad bikes. Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation, Matt Kean said, “This funding is critical for our farmers because quad bikes are still the biggest killer on Australian farms, with 128 people killed since 2011, including 32 in NSW. Part of the new funding will go towards $500 rebates for farmers who wish to buy drones.”

Currently the program provides two rebates valued at up to $1000 each to replace an existing quad bike or alternatively, have it fitted with safety equipment like roll bars including a free helmet and training.

3000 farmers have accessed SafeWork’s Quad Bike Safety Improvement Program since its introduction and it is estimated 250 training events have been held throughout NSW since then.

MTA NSW General Manager Operations, David Rodger said, “This is a very good outcome, as our Divisional Managers Brenton Daniel and Mark Jackson, have been representing our Members at a legislative level since the program’s inception. SafeWork’s Quad Bike Safety Improvement Program is making a critical difference – quad bike related deaths and accidents are on the downward trend.”
