1.      Mask Wearing

1.1    Mask wearing is mandatory for all indoor settings from 24 December 2021 until 27 January 2022.

1.2    Masks will be compulsory in all indoor non-residential settings, including for hospitality staff and in offices, unless eating or drinking.

2.      Re-introduction of Density Limits

2.1    Density limits will be re-introduced for indoor hospitality venues at 2 sqm per person from 12:01AM on 27 December 2021.

2.2    Hospitality venues, including pubs, clubs, restaurants and cafes will move to 1 person per 2 sqm rule indoors.

2.3
    For outdoor settings and all other indoor settings that do not have density limits, social distancing is encouraged.

3.      QR Code Check-In

3.1    QR code check-ins will be compulsory, including for hospitality and retail from 12:01AM on 27 December 2021 until 27 January 2022.

4.      Free Rapid Antigen Test

4.1    The NSW Government will also procure Rapid Antigen Test kits and make them available for free to people across the State in 2022, to give additional options to people and allow those who need to get a PCR test to do so.

4.2    To ease the stress on the current PCR testing facilities, NSW residents are encouraged to ONLY get a PCR testing when:

  • being told by NSW Health to do so (NSW Health NSW will only contact those at risk in high-risk settings such as age-care facilities);
  • in contact in with an infected person; or
  • having symptoms.

The above updates on the COVID restrictions were announced in the NSW Press Conference and Media Statement on 23 December 2021. For the time being, the Public Health Order has not yet been updated to reflect the above changes.

Even though limited definitions were provided to clarify the meaning of “indoor settings” (for mask wearing) and “retail settings” (for QR Code check-in), Members are advised to take a cautionary approach to implement both mask wearing and QR Code check-in requirements for all indoor settings at their premises, including the retail, workshop and office spaces.
